Since the 1950s, the BDC has provided land, building and financing opportunities to spur economic development in Van Wert County, Ohio.

Our History

Established in the 1950s, the BDC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization (formerly known as the Van Wert Industrial Development Corporation).  Our board is comprised of a diverse group of private business men and women who volunteer their time and expertise.   In partnership with Van Wert County and the City of Van Wert, the BDC has made a number of historic contributions to Van Wert’s economic competitiveness by securing and improving land to attract new companies and jobs.

Specifically, the BDC developed two industrial parks: Fox Road Industrial Park and Vision Industrial Park. The Fox Road Industrial Park serves as an example of proactive leadership demonstrated by the BDC in that the BDC took the initiative to build economic development / industrial park capacity at a time when other communities were not even considering such an approach.

The BDC built on this success by developing the successful Vision Industrial Park. Located on the northwest edge of Van Wert, Vision Industrial Park houses Braun, Kam Manufacturing, National Door & Trim, and other light manufacturing and distribution companies. Of particular note, the BDC has been instrumental in bringing several companies like Braun to Van Wert.

Our Future

In 2014, the BDC completed a fundraising campaign to create the Opportunity Fund.  The campaign was successful, raising over a million dollars with the assistance of our generous Van Wert business community.  The Opportunity Fund represents a vigorous future in our tradition in providing  land, building and favorable financing.   Our board is comprised of diverse private business leaders.  We're nimble. We're responsive.  These facts represent the simple truth: it's easier to grow business in Van Wert.
