Notini & Sons are wholesale distributors of many different products, mainly tobacco.

Requirement
Notini & Sons needed to replace a time consuming manual process of assembling order books
and order guides. Operators would offset print covers for each print run. Then using a label
generating application import data from the AS400 to generate item lists with Plessy barcodes.
Manually operators would generate index pages and item headings for the major grocery
sections and assemble the books.

Solution
In order to eliminate the manual assembly process and deliver order books and guides on time to
clients and distributing agents, ASE along with Xerox and Notini designed a work flow to
automatically generate the proper order guide for on demand printing.
The new solution ingests AS400 data in an ASCII delimited format. Using masks, the data type is
determined and the proper formatting is applied. After the data has been formatted (index pages,
headings and barcodes) an overlay is applied. The completed book is delivered to a Xerox printer
with with a DocuBind thermal binder. Completed books are saved in a queue on the printer and as
required printed for salesman, distributors and clients.
